The Clay Centre
The Clay Centre is where Alistair Gillies creates his garden ceramics and teaches the joy of creating with clay. Alistair has been teaching all ages [from 4 to 80 years] since 1989 and with The Clay Centre he has achieved his ambition of having his own teaching/making studio.
Alistair offers Wednesday night classes for adults, and both beginners and the more experienced are very welcome. Classes are not in blocks of weeks and if you miss one it is added to the end. This means that no one wastes money by missing a class [unlike standard college classes]. The classes run from 7.00 to 9.00 pm and cost £7.50 for a 2 hour session.
Alistair also welcomes people who wish to create pottery in the afternoons [usually Thursday] - give me a call and we can discuss this. This is a popular option for families during school holidays.
Alistair's Children's Pottery Parties are very popular and are suitable for children aged from 5 to about 14 years. Lasting about 2 hours each child will make a clay head and a pot on the potters wheel. Pottery parties cost £7.50 per child with a minimum of 6 children and a maximum of 15. The Clay Centre also houses a gallery area which shows Alistair's garden ceramics and his other pots, the slipware of Elspeth Soper and the high quality ceramic jewellery of Blake and Janette McKinnon.
