Thrown potsThe Clay Centre is now in Broseley, just up the hill from the Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire and it is where Alistair Gillies creates his garden ceramics and teaches the joy of creating with clay.

Alistair has been teaching all ages [from 4 to 80 years] since 1989 and with The Clay Centre he has achieved his ambition of having his own teaching/making studio.

Alistair offers daytime and evening pottery classes for adults, and both beginners and the more experienced are very welcome. Classes are continuous rather than in blocks of weeks so if you miss one you do not lose your money [unlike standard college classes]. At present classes are run on Tuesday morning from 10.00am ‘till midday and Thursday evening from 7.00—9.00pm and cost £10.00 for a 2 hour session. Please email or phone if you are interested.

Students are welcome to follow their own ideas or create one of the ready made projects, Alistair has experienced most clay techniques so feel free to suggest something you would like to make!

Alistair's Children's Pottery Parties are very popular and are suitable for children aged from 5 years to about 13 years. Lasting about 2 hours each child will make a clay head and a pot on the potters wheel.

Parties can be run at The Clay Centre for up to 12 children, or for larger groups I will hire a local community centre [in Broseley] where I can accommodate up to 20 [well behaved] children!

Pottery parties at The Clay Centre cost £10.00 per child with a minimum cost of £75.

To hire a hall the minimum cost is £160 [up to 16 children] for numbers above this I charge £5 per child up to the maximum of 20 children [£180]. I will absorb the cost of the hall and parties have the use of the food preparation area [cold food use only], toilets and better car parking. A party of this size will need 3 - 4 parents on hand who are willing to become involved.

To run a party at the local hall I will need to transport clay, hand tools, the potter's wheel etc etc and clean up afterwards - adults attending the party will be expected to clean up after any food they have brought.

Please give Alistair a ring on 07973 866198 discuss your child’s birthday clay session.
